Links
Medicare Website
The official Medicare website (Medicare.gov) provides clear information about Medicare coverage, enrollment, and costs. It helps people compare Original Medicare with Medicare Advantage, find drug and health plan options, and check eligibility. Visitors can also manage their benefits, create an account, and access resources for billing, claims, and forms.
Signing up for Medicare Parts A/B
People aged 65 or older (or those under 65 with certain disabilities or permanent kidney failure) can enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B through the Social Security Administration, with premiums optionally withheld from benefit payments (or delayed if already covered by an employer-sponsored group health plan). It provides guidance on the information needed to apply such as your Social Security number, place of birth, and any health insurance coverage dates and offers options to apply online, call, or visit in person.
Apply for Medicare's limited income drug assistance program
This page explains the Extra Help (or Low-Income Subsidy) program, which provides financial assistance to Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and resources by lowering or eliminating costs related to Part D prescription drug coverage—such as premiums, deductibles, and copayments. It outlines eligibility criteria, including automatic qualification for individuals who receive Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and provides details on how to apply (online, by phone, or at a Social Security office), along with the required financial documentation.
FSSA Benefits Portal (Indiana)
The Indiana FSSA Benefits Portal is the official online system where individuals can apply for programs like the Medicare Savings Program (to help with Medicare costs), Medicaid benefits, and SNAP (food assistance). Through this portal, you can complete applications, upload documents, renew benefits, and track the status of your case. It offers a secure and convenient way to manage these important programs without needing to visit a local office.
Indiana Pathways
Indiana PathWays for Aging is a new program for Hoosiers age 60 and older who are on Medicaid or both Medicare and Medicaid. Starting in 2025, it helps seniors stay in their homes and communities by connecting them with a health plan and a dedicated care coordinator to organize services like transportation, meals, home health, and adult day programs. PathWays does not change existing Medicaid benefits but makes them easier to access, offering guidance and support so older adults can maintain independence and receive the care they need.
Kentucky Medicaid
Kentucky Medicaid is a joint state–federal health coverage program that serves eligible low-income residents—including children, pregnant individuals, families, older adults, and people with disabilities—based on income, household size, and in some cases, assets. It provides access to a range of healthcare services and supports, with applications available through the kynect portal, by phone, or in person at local Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) offices.
