What services does Tri-State Medicare Advisors provide?

We specialize in helping individuals navigate Medicare and related health insurance options. Our team provides guidance on Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement plans, and Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D). We work with multiple carriers to ensure you find the right fit for your healthcare and budget needs.

Do I have to pay for your services?

No. Our services are completely free to you. We are compensated by the insurance companies when you enroll in a plan, meaning you get expert advice and support without any additional cost.

When should I start thinking about Medicare?

It’s a good idea to begin reviewing your Medicare options about six months to one year before turning 65. This gives you time to understand your choices, compare plans, and ensure you’re fully prepared for enrollment.

Can you help me if I’m already on Medicare?

Yes. Even if you’re already enrolled, we can review your current plan to make sure it still fits your needs. Medicare plans can change each year, and your healthcare or medication needs may change as well.

How do I know which Medicare plan is right for me?

Choosing a plan depends on your medical needs, prescription medications, preferred doctors or hospitals, and budget. We take the time to get to know your situation and present you with personalized options so you can make an informed decision.

What does Original Medicare cover and not cover?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice, doctor visits, preventive care, and medically necessary services. However, it does not cover most dental, vision, hearing, prescriptions, or long-term care. That’s why many people add a Medicare Advantage, Supplement, or Part D plan to fill in the gaps.

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans?

Medicare Advantage (Part C): Combines hospital, medical, and often prescription drug coverage into one plan. These plans may also include extras like dental, vision, or hearing benefits. Medicare Supplement (Medigap): Helps cover costs that Original Medicare does not, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. These plans do not include prescription drug coverage, so a separate Part D plan is needed.

Can I have Medicare and Medicaid?

Yes. If you qualify for both, you are considered “dual eligible.” Medicare is your primary insurance, and Medicaid can help pay for costs like premiums, copays, and deductibles. Some people may also qualify for special Dual Eligible Medicare Advantage plans (D-SNPs) that include extra benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, and transportation.

I can’t afford Medicare Part B’s monthly premium — what are my options?

If paying the Part B premium is difficult, you may qualify for the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) through your state, based on income and asset limits. This program can pay your Part B premium, and in some cases even help with deductibles and copays. You might also qualify for Medicaid, which provides additional coverage and support. We can help you check your eligibility and apply through the Indiana FSSA portal (or your state’s Medicaid office).

Do I need Part D (Drug Coverage)?

Yes, in most cases. Medicare Part D helps cover the cost of your prescription medications. Even if you don’t take many prescriptions today, it’s usually smart to enroll when you’re first eligible. If you delay and don’t have other creditable drug coverage (such as from an employer or union plan), you may face a late enrollment penalty that lasts as long as you have Medicare. Many Medicare Advantage plans already include Part D coverage, while Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans require you to add a standalone Part D plan to prevent penalty.
